Hunter and the Bear: ‘Paper Heart’ review – meaty riffs, gravelly vocals and bags of energy

Hunter and the Bear’s album ‘Paper Heart’ is a record that will leave fans of classic rock grinning from ear to ear.

The four-piece deliver heavy meaty riffs, and when mixed with the gravelly vocals from lead singer Will Irvine create a sound that is classic and highly enjoyable.

Lead guitarist Jimmy Hunter hails from Glasgow, and the influence of one of the city’s biggest exports Biffy Clyro can clearly be heard in tracks like ‘You Can Talk’ and ‘Who’s Gonna Hear You’.

But there are also other influences.

‘Won’t You Ever Come Home’ or ‘Renegade’ could easily have come from a Bruce Springsteen record and are a very different tone to the earlier tracks on the album.

My personal favourite track on the album ‘DRK’ is a cracking modern rock track with a heavy riff reminiscent of Royal Blood.

The overall effect is a highly enjoyable, energetic record.
